bits and pieces.

weekends are for doing whatever you want. right? right. this means i am spending my time listening to ABBA and eating brunch. i made these cinnamon rolls. well. i made the frosting anyway.
coffee always tastes better in the tiger mug. always.
i am also blogging and making wish lists and dreaming of my vacation, which is less than 3 weeks away! i will finally be able to breathe. and see blue sky. and eat snacks and do fun things. 20 days guys, 20 days. the air here is so disgusting right now. it looks really pretty, until you realize it is just pollution. i have never felt so depressed in my life. i cannot ever remember the inversion being this bad. utah has been in the news all over the country, and even internationally. barf.
always dreaming of summer. always. i need a new suit, this one is beautiful. i can't pay that much for a suit i know i will ruin. but this is going to be a big summer. full of pool parties and lake adventures and my 30th birthday party, so maybe i will treat myself.

puddin.

so i usually about every month or every two months i get a new snack obsession. lately it has been chocolate pudding in a graham cracker pie crust.
oh my lord. i love it.
i don't know if it is because i grew up in utah, and jello is served all the time, or if it is just because pudding pie is delicious. but either way i love it to death. and honestly it is one of the easiest desserts to make. all you do is make a crust with graham crackers and melted butter and pour the pudding into the crust. that is it!
i love you pudding!

sorry danielle. i know you hate it.

bees michael! bees!!!

friday night i had a hot date with the one and only ms. james.
erin and i used to be roomies at melrose place. i have missed her over the last couple of years. we recently went to lunch and rekindled our friendship. we also spent new years eve together drinking while our dates played call of duty and the dog bit my arm.
anywhoo, i love her guts and on friday night we baked a cake. a bee cake. it is so cute!!! i have been doing a lot of baking this week.

here is the bee cake in the before stage

here it is being frosted

and here it is after. so cute.

and only the day before i made these wonderful cupcakes. i thought they looked like elephant seals. the boy i made them for didn't know what an elephant seal looked like. can you see the resemblance?

freeeeeeeeeeedom!!!!!!!

to celebrate school being over, i am spending my weekend baking and cooking.
i am making this today. i cannot wait.

yummmmmmmm!!!

3/4 ounces dried porcini mushrooms (1 cup)
6 cups tepid water plus 2 cups hot water, divided
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1/2 stick unsalted butter
2 celery ribs, finely chopped
1 medium carrot, finely chopped
3 garlic cloves, finely chopped
1 1/2 pounds white mushrooms, sliced or quartered
1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes, drained
2 tablespoons finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
2 tablespoons finely chopped dill

preparation

Soak porcini in 2 cups hot water 15 minutes.

Cook onion in butter with 1 teaspoon salt in a heavy medium pot over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until onion is golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes. Add celery, carrot, and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 5 minutes.

Transfer porcini with a slotted spoon to pot and strain soaking liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a large glass measure. Add white mushrooms to pot with 1 teaspoon salt and 1/2 teaspoon pepper. Cook, stirring, until mushrooms are tender, 6 to 8 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, remaining 6 cups water, and porcini-soaking liquid. Simmer, partially covered, 30 minutes.

Purée 1 cup vegetables and 1 cup liquid in a blender (use caution when blending hot liquids), then return to pot. Stir in parsley, dill, and salt to taste.

oh, october.

this is what i have done so far in october:
ditched class not once, but twice to go to the zoo with megan. i love the zoo. i know it is depressing, but still everytime you go you are supporting it. i am obsessed with the tiger. i want to break him out and snuggle the shit out of him. and these are not the best photos, i still do not have a camera. only a cell phone.

also this cat came into my moms backyard. i think i am attracting wildcats. i think i am destined to own at least 5 cats. there are two lurking around justins apartment too. one killed a pigeon and left it on the side of the building. he will be mine. the one at my moms house was super cute though. i tried to feed it some ravioli, but it was not that into it.

megan found these sweet boots at the rack to go with her purple fringed leather jacket. at 70 dollars, they are a total steal.

i went to denver to hang out with my favorite rats and their rat pets. cool pig and moustache pumpkin were born when kendyl and i made sugar cookies.

we also went on a long long drive up a beautiful canyon to go to a stupa, it was beautiful. see???
it looked like the white witch came through the canyon though, everything was covered in frost. it was so pretty.

kendyl and i went out in our hobo/pirate/lazy outfits. we make a lovely couple.

oh and i got to hang out with pseudo.

i miss you guys!!!

then this guy came to visit for a minute:

soon i will have new neighbors!!! megs and brittany and joey are moving right around the corner from my moms house.

halloween! this year meg and i had planned on being dinosaurs but we are too lazy to sew our costumes. so now i am going to be like a virgin madonna.

and still to come this october:
yelle!!!
tomorrow!!! saturday the 25th, i am so excited!!!
